ESCA backs up the hookah industry !
The European Shisha Community Alliance (ESCA) is a European alliance which protects and serves its members who face threats to their business from new legislation at local, national and eu level.
THREATS TO OUR COMMUNITY
The EU, in its Cancer Plan of February 3rd has been explicit in its intention to ban all flavours via the Tobacco Products Directive and also declared an ambition for all EU Member States to be tobacco free by 2040 – this ambition covers all tobacco product categories, including shisha.
The Dutch Secretary of State for Health has declared an intention to ban shisha lounges due to alleged circumventions of the smoking ban.
In Denmark, menthol has been banned as an ingredient for smoking tobacco. Whilst the focus is currently on cigarettes, it is not long before they apply it to shisha.
The Spanish Ministry of Health has confirmed plans to ban all flavours (even in advance of the EU) and to put a stop to public place smoking – with a specific focus on shisha lounges.
ESCA, WHAT IS IT ?
ESCA is a growing organisation that unites the various segments of the shisha sector (manufacturers, distributors, retailers and lounge owners) to defend our culture and our businesses.
Bringing the shisha industry together will not only help to defend the future of this business, but it will also enable it to grow and prosper through the sharing of new insights and the building of connections.
